Category Archives: Coping around the year
As we struggle to return to ‘normal’ after losing a baby or a pregnancy, we often find that we can cope ok with regular life, but anything out of the ordinary can be enough to undo us.
Jewish life is marked by ‘moadim’ – special days, some happy and some sad. Often, even when we are coping well (or well enough) with everyday life, encountering a festival – especially since they usually involve ‘getting all the family together’ – is enough to knock us back. Often people can feel isolated from the rest of the happy Jewish world, and sad that their baby is not here with them. If this is the ‘first time’ since the loss, we can also feel swamped in a wave of memories that ‘this time last year’ things were so different.
We’d like to share a few words of encouragement and support for each festival or special time we encounter through the year, to give you a way to relate to the time of year as a bereaved mother/father, and to remind you again that you’re not alone in your emotions.
